Project Management Introduction

The second exam in the NCARB series for ARE 5.0 is for project management, so this is the exam that's gonna look at the sort of over arching path of a project through a design firm. In the first one, we are looking at how a practice is organized, which includes lots of different projects and how they move through a firm. But this one we're really gonna focus in on a specific project. Now, clearly, there's a lot of information in there about which type of project and the different ways that things can get organized, but we're gonna focus in on issues of managing the contracts.

Looking to control your relationships with the clients, the relationships with the fee, controlling risk, kind of understanding where the issues might be where the problem points might come. Making sure that we have a good quality control happening so that we're always sort of following the best path for that particular project. And then understanding the delivery and the flow of the work, right? The sort of big picture scale of the over arching idea of what this project needs to be able to do, and that the right things are happening at the right times and that you're doing the work at logical moments, you're reviewing the work with the client at the logical moments that people are being paid in a logical way.

It's just all of those kinds of organizational ideas about how you move a project, from the beginning, all the way through to the end.
